Straight Edge
I know Philip and I have shared a laugh and a head scratch or two over the somewhat ascetic, hardcore punk movement known as 'straight edge', but I wasn't sure if anybody else had heard of it. Very interesting, indeed! I knew there was something different about the DC music scene (come to think of it, I saw Fugazi in Chicago in the early 90's)...I wonder if these are the type of folk that "Death to the World" was focused on? Definitely seems like there is a fair amount of common ground...but, then again, Communism and Fascism have also tended to "encourage" a "healthy" lifestyle...not to mention Puritanism, etc....there's always a temptation the other direction, towards Manichaeism, etc.
